| A Chemical Audit will be carried out by one or two of the Fuji Hunt Technical Service staff, and will take between 1 and 3 days, depending on the size of the laboratory.
The Audit will assess a laboratory’s entire production process from delivery to waste disposal. In the delivery area, both delivery methods and stock storage - including the stock inventory - will be examined, with a view to uncovering opportunities for improvements and savings. All the processors themselves will be thoroughly checked, and their configurations, tank volumes, layout, etc. noted. Where the chemicals are concerned, samples will be taken and analysed, in order to verify correct process conditions. Replenisher rates and temperatures will also be checked. The collection, treatment and disposal of waste, including packaging, will be examined, together with silver recovery systems and wash water usage, with the intention of eliminating overuse and wastage. The resulting Audit Report is a detailed document containing Fuji Hunt’s findings, suggestions, and recommendations for a more finely tuned and economic operation. It is important that laboratory staff are reassured that the Audit is a means by which to improve efficiency, and is not seeking to find fault. This Audit, on request, can include a separate Health and Safety check. This check will consist of a careful examination of all hazardous products, carrying the orange hazard label, used within the laboratory. This will include not only photochemicals, but other products that may be found in a laboratory, such as thinners and solvents. The Audit’s aim is to assess the risk that these products pose to the organisation concerned – and their staff – and to consider possible non-hazardous alternatives. To this end, aspects such as the provision of adequate ventilation, protective clothing etc will need to be ascertained. | |||
