Black & White Manual Processing

Although Fuji Hunt black & white processing chemicals are primarily designed for various types of continuous processing machines, they are equally suitable for hand processing in small tanks and trays. In particular, Printstar Pro paper developer is also perfect for hand processing, and is available in a convenient 2x5L pack,

Film Processing

Negastar Pro Film Developer is designed for dip and dunk processors and continuous type film machines, but is also ideally suited to use in small hand tanks and deep tank manual processors.

If you wish to use Negastar Pro for manual processing, please be aware that it is only available in relatively large pack sizes. The smallest pack size available is 2 x 5L concentrate, to make 2 x 25L working developer. You will also need a starter solution - Negastar Pro Developer Starter - for best results, although it can also be used without a starter by reducing the development times.

If you have enough film volume to make this pack size a workable option, then go ahead and use it! It is an excellent general purpose developer giving superb results on all types of film.

Negastar Pro developer has been designed as a replenished system (but is also perfect for one-shot use in small tanks), to be used at 20-24°C. Developing times are very convenient for manual processing - 9:00 minutes for Fuji Acros 100, 7:30 for Fuji Neopan 400, 6:00 for Fuji Neopan 1600 (and 8:30 for Ilford FP4, 7:00 for Ilford HP5, 7:30 for Kodak TMax 100 and Tri-X).

For further information, and development times for other film types, please see our Black & White Technical Bulletin.

Paper Processing

Printstar Pro Paper Developer is suitable for use in all types of paper processor and with all makes of multicontrast and fixed grade paper. This developer has a high print capacity and is very economical to use. It can be used at any temperature from 20-40°C, and gives a slightly cool black image colour with neutral tone papers. It works excellently for tray developing, with a development time of around 45 seconds at 20°C. With higher temperatures, development time is considerably reduced.

Printstar Pro is supplied as a 2 x 5L concentrate for 1+4 dilution, giving a total of 50L of working developer from one pack. When using only part of a 5L bottle of concentrate for a printing session, splitting the bottle into several smaller completely filled bottles will ensure that your developer stays fresh until you need it. Make sure that all such bottles are correctly labelled!

Fixing

Starfix is a Universal Fixer for film and paper. The concentrate is diluted 1+4 for use. This fixer is a non-hardening type suitable for use in trays and all types of processor. Fixing time is 2 - 5 minutes for film, 30 seconds for paper (for fresh fixer at 20°C).
